Crowns and Bridges

Here at Ashgrove West Dental, we are able to offer restorative dentistry, giving patients the opportunity to restore their smile and functionality with custom-made crowns and bridges

Why are restorative procedures important?

  • Replacing/restoring teeth help maintain good oral hygeine, and can prevent oral disease and plaque build up

  • Filling empty gaps helps keep teeth in correct alignment

  • Missing teeth can affect functionality, health, and looks

Constructing a crown requires two appointments. The first appointment involves preparing the existing tooth to receive the crown. Impressions of the tooth are taken and sent to dental technicians where the final crown is created. A temporary crown is placed on the prepared tooth until the second appointment. During the second appointment, the temporary crown is removed, and replaced by the new custom-made crown. It is then adjusted and cemented into place.  Dental crowns can be made from a range of materials, including porcelain, gold, and alloys, or a combination of these. Porcelain is the most popular choice for crowns as they can be sculpted to closely match your natural dental aesthetics, whilst still providing strength and resilience.

A dental bridge covers or "bridges" the gap between the missing tooth. It is made up of two crowns for teeth on either side of the gap. These anchoring teeth are referred to as abutment teeth, with a false tooth/teeth in between.
